Canadian Pardon Fees

Starting February 23, 2012, the record suspension application fee increased to $631. The total cost of a pardon in Canada is significantly influenced by the government charges associated with collecting and filing the application paperwork.

Here’s a breakdown of costs:

  • Record Check: A record check can last a couple of days. An amount ranging from $50 to $75 is paid to the local police to verify that there is no recent criminal activity. This is an important step to ensure that you have completed the required 5 or 10 year waiting period.

  • Fingerprinting: When getting your criminal record, you need to contact your local police service so they can take your fingerprints on a fingerprint form, which is then sent together with a money order, cheque, or bank draft to the Receiver General. The process takes between 3 and 120 days, and may cost anywhere from $30 to $125. This price typically includes the RCMP certification fee.

  • Court Processing: You must obtain court information for each of your convictions, including proof of payment for any fines, restitution, victim charges, and compensation. The court information also includes the method of trial for each conviction. This process may take anywhere from 14 to 90 days, at a cost of $40 to $100.

  • Parole Board Processing: To apply for a record suspension, you must complete and submit the record suspension form. The application takes up to 6 months for summary offences and 12 months for indictable offences, at a standard cost of $631.
